John qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and gained notoriety through the Manchester, Salford, Leeds, London and Birmingham legal circuits. He joined Carter Moore solicitors in April 2019.
John has worked on a number of high profile cases which have received national media coverage.
John was a sole advocate in the case of R v Paul Hookway which involved a challenge to the police bail laws and the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. The representations John made before District Judge Finestein at Salford Magistrates Court ultimately lead to this case being debated in the Supreme Court. The Conservative government was forced to in act emergency legislation to over turn the decision made in this case as a result of the representations put forward by John.
John specialises in crime and POCA cases involving the preparation of some of the teams biggest cases. John has also worked on many enforcement hearings (successfully!!) at the Magistrates Court and of course conducting ancillary proceedings such as applications and Section 11, Section 23 and Section 22. John is a senior and instrumental member of the team.
John has recently worked on a number of high profile environmental confiscation cases involving the biggest prosecution in the North East of England and has earned praise from both Judges on his challenge to the Environment Agency’s account.
