In 2010 it was seen that there was a 35% decrease in deaths caused by drink drivers compared to 2009. The total number of drink driving related deaths in 2009 totalled 380 whilst in 2010 there were 250 fatalities.
Serious and slight injuries caused by drunk drivers have also decreased. Although these figures show promise, the Transport minister says strong action will be imposed on those who are caught drink driving. However, these figures contradict statistics released earlier this week that more and more motorists under the age of 25 are being caught driving over the legal limit by the police.
