Skeletal Injuries

Skeletal injuries are extremely varied, and result in millions of lost working days in the UK.

Main symptoms include:

  • Inflammation around the joints
  • Heavy bruising, swelling, tenderness or laceration
  • Restriction of movement
  • Inability to bear weight

The actual medical cause of this type of injury is usually attributable to one or more of the following:

  • Damage to joints, ligaments, tendons or nerves
  • Broken bones
  • Trauma or crush injury
  • Torn meniscus

These injuries can be caused by a number of different factors but are most likely to have been sustained through an accident such as:

  • A fall, slip or trip
  • A road traffic accident
  • An accident at work
  • A sports injury

Treatments for this kind of injury will be recommended by a medical professional and depend on the type of injury sustained, but can include:

  • Surgical or non-surgical immobilisation
  • Rest and immobilisation
